Background[]

When Azryah awoke to this life, she was in a strange room. It was simple, but had odd patterns on the walls that she didn't recognize at first. It didn't appear that there was a door, windows, or any other exit, and she was very confused. She shook off the fog that comes with the rebirth, ideas and images floating just out of grasp in her mind. She took a moment to meditate and clear her head, then took stock of the situation again.

She stood and paced around the room several times. She counted how many paces each wall was, and studied the patterns on the walls. Then she saw that the patterns formed a puzzles. It was a type of maze and if she tilted her head just right, she could just make it out. She placed a hand on the wall in a random position within the maze, being unable to tell where it began or ended at this time, just enough so that her fingertips touched it, and began to trace around the pattern attempting to find the exit. She hit several dead ends and after several hours she sat down to rest. No other form of life had appeared and she was wondering what had prompted her rebirth in such a strange place.

She stretched her legs and arms, working out the cramps that so many hours of walking had placed in the new muscles. Then she laid down for a brief rest and fell asleep quickly. She woke several hours later, hungry, and tried again. It was several more hours, and she was feeling very hungry and thirsty, by the time she found an exit to the maze. It didn't look much like an exit to her eyes, but her fingers could tell. There was a small ridge and as she explored it she discovered that it was a button. She pressed it in without thinking twice about possibility of a trap. After all, what could be worse of a trap than being stuck in this room with no food, water, or companionship?

With the button depressed, a larger crease became evident and she was able to use the depression as a handle to slide the wall section to one side and exit the room. There was someone there waiting for her. It was an elderly man, human, holding a set of deep blue robes.

"Welcome to the party," he said in a voice full of laughter. "Glad you could join us. I think these will suit you well."

He handed her the robes and waited while she put them on. "My name is Josef and you are..." he waited for her answer.

After a moment of thought and searching through her mind she said, "I am Azryah." The words came out in a rolling way. The voice was soft, pleasant to hear.

Josef led her away to food and drink and while she was satiating those needs explained to her that she was in a remote temple of Merkari. Getting out of the room was her first test in his service, as he is always testing his followers. Her real training would begin on the morrow, but she should learn to always expect the unexpected.

And so it was. She began training that involved a great many things. There were more puzzles and traps, strength and agility training, weapons work, and more. If you can think to be trained in it, she was. All the while she was learning her mission for this life: to server Merkari as an avenger. It was her duty to keep travel safe for those who chose to undertake such things. Often she questioned her god, why would he set her to fight those who stop safe passage? The most common of those were theives and bandits. Did he not shelter them as well? Yet over the years she came to understand that Merkari is always testing his followers. He never sets an easy road. Like the old beggar on the road in fairy tales, she was to be their test. If they were caught, after all, then they were not yet strong enough to pass this test and vengeance would be swift.

After many years, she set out from the temple to begin her journey and fulfill her purpose. She travelled near and far, and never really knew quite where she was, but it wasn't important. Always she was doing Merkari's will. Lately, she has been feeling something of a pull inside, as if she is being directed to an area of particular trouble. She has taken portals and boats and walked many roads, but now finds herself in Daunton. When she arrived the feeling dissipated, so she feels that this is where she should be, but she isn't yet sure why.

Personality: She is tries to be the friendly sort, which sometimes takes people aback considering her race. However, she occasionally lacks tact. If she thinks someone is being an idiot, she'll say so, irregardless of station, etc. She tries to maintain a jovial outward appearance, except when she is engaged in battle. At that time she is totally focused on the fight. She can be incredibly ruthless when she feels the situation warrants it.
Visual Appearance: Her skin is a pale whitish color with just the smallest hint of blue in it. Her face has deep midnight blue markings: three thin lightingbolt-ish lines descend from the corner of each eye to her chin. If she were to stand naked, you would see similar markings starting at the center of her back, moving up over her shoulders, and down to the center of her chest. Her eyes and hair are also a deep blue. Her hair is cut at the shoulders, and she wears it loose. She wears only dark clothes, mostly blacks and deep blues.
